“Did you hear about the elementary school being rebuilt?” a student whispers to a friend. Today, we are standing before Fuchu City Fuchu Daisan Elementary School. It is a place of learning in Fuchu, Tokyo.

Fuchu City is undertaking various initiatives for the school’s reconstruction. The goal is to complete the work by 2025. This includes interior and exterior construction.

In early 2025, construction photos show classrooms and the regional entrance. Images also show the craft room and science lab. Scaffolding surrounds the site in other photos. Interior work involves installing wooden louvers on the ceiling.

In late 2024, construction photos show furniture being installed. Earlier in November 2024, a new school building frame was visible. There was also work on the elevator.

Pool construction was underway in October 2024. Roof work occurred in September 2024. Window installation happened in August 2024. In July 2024, the roof pool was visible.

In June 2024, the pool frame was taking shape. May 2024 saw structural work on the annex. April 2024 included temporary construction for the new gym. Concrete work took place in March 2024.

February 2024 showed ground work for the new gym. January 2024 featured temporary scaffolding in front of the new school building. Heavy machinery was used in December 2023. Rebar placement occurred in November 2023.

In October 2023, groundwork began on the pool. September 2023 showed the school building’s foundation. Demolition of the existing pool happened in August 2023.

Before reconstruction, a pathway was created for students. This ensured safe passage during construction. The pathway was on the west side of the school. Students started using it in the second term of 2023.

Originally, reconstruction was to be done by December 2024. However, buried artifacts were discovered during excavation. This required an archaeological survey. The survey delayed construction by about three months. The new completion target is now the new term of 2025.

In 2022, a survey gathered opinions from sixth-graders and guardians. This feedback was used for the school’s design.

Sixth-graders discussed what they wanted to keep or improve. They suggested elevators for accessibility. They also wanted nicer restrooms. Some liked the spacious schoolyard, cherry trees and forests. Some students wanted better building layouts.

The basic plan was set in 2021. It covered space allocation and building design. The basic concept was decided in October 2020. This considered the school’s scale and schedule.

The construction company, Kyoiku Shisetsu, anticipates completion in 2025. The rebuilt Fuchu City Fuchu Daisan Elementary School promises a modern learning environment for future generations.
