“The cherry blossoms are breathtaking aren’t they?” This is the Kawasakishi Kurigdai Municipal Kibaoka Elementary School. Established in April 1983 it stands as a testament to community growth. It wasn’t always here though.
Before this building stood proudly the area was a part of a larger elementary school. The Kurigdai branch of the Nakamizo Elementary School. The expansion of the Kibaoka area demanded a school of its own. The new school opened its doors in 1983. 156 students filled its halls that day. In total 185 students attended that first year. Quite a difference from today’s 617.
This school’s motto is simple yet profound. “Nurturing children with bright hearts to live their lives to the fullest.” It focuses on developing students who are creative. Students who are compassionate and capable of teamwork. It wants them to be strong in body and spirit. This motto is reflected in its unique school crest. The cherry blossom is a visual representation of the school’s history. The area was once known as Nakamizo Village. The cherry blossom acts as a link to the past. It also represents the vibrant and hopeful future of the students.
The school building itself is noteworthy. Its position on a hillside offers views of the surrounding neighborhood. It’s surrounded by a well-maintained campus. The campus is full of green spaces.
