From its humble beginnings in 1960, Kawasaki City Nakanoshima Elementary School has been an educational cornerstone of this community. It was established by separating from another elementary school, becoming a beacon in its own right. Kawasaki City Nakanoshima Elementary serves the children of much of Nakanoshima. Specifically, it covers Oji Nakanoshima and sections 1 through 5. It also includes children from the Wakaizumi area and some students who live outside the designated district. Kawasaki City Nakanoshima Elementary, affectionately known as Nakasho, started with 302 students. The school’s population grew significantly, surpassing 1,000 students in 1965. It peaked in 1974 with 1,582 students. After a period of decline due to changing demographics and the opening of Shimokubota Elementary School, Nakanoshima Elementary saw its numbers rise again. From 1996 to 2008, enrollment consistently hovered over 1,000. In recent times, the student body has stabilized around 900. Today, the school continues to thrive with 869 students across six grades. They learn and play on the school grounds, which span almost 10,000 square meters. The original school building was a five-story steel and concrete structure. Over the years, the school has expanded and adapted to meet the needs of a growing community. A gymnasium and a pool on the roof offer a refreshing escape. There are specialized classrooms and a well-equipped playground. Kawasaki City Nakanoshima Elementary School remains committed to its educational goals of fostering joyful learning, a peaceful environment, and a lively atmosphere.
