“What secrets does this building hold?” I ask, gazing up at Senshu University’s Building No. 10. Here, before us stands the 140th Anniversary Building, completed in 2020. It is also known as Kanda Campus Building No. 10.
Senshu University was founded in 1880. It emerged during the Meiji era. The Meiji government sent students abroad. Nagatane Soma, Inajiro Tajiri, Tanetaro Megata, and Shigetada Komai went to the USA. They studied at Columbia, Yale, Harvard, and Rutgers. They returned to Japan. They established Senshu Gakko. This was the forerunner to Senshu University. Their dream empowered others. Their school became Japan’s first to teach law and economics in Japanese.
