Didn’t village heads once gather here? This is the Anbiruke Nagayamon. It stands near the south entrance of the 21st Century Forest. Please remember this is a private residence. Do not enter without permission.
The Nagayamon gate is often seen in front of a daimyo’s residence. Even in farming villages, only certain farmers like village officials could build them. This gate dates back to 1840. It was built around the late Edo period.
The Anbiruke Nagayamon is one of the oldest in the Nishi region of Shimousa. It is also the largest nagayamon in Matsudo City. Its construction year and the head craftsman are well-documented. This makes it a valuable example of late Edo period construction technology.
The structure is wooden with a tile roof. It measures 14.78 meters wide and 4 meters deep. The Anbiru family once worked as horse keepers for Kogane pasture. The main house behind the Nagayamon was built in 1783. It is said to be the oldest private house in the city.
Matsudo City designated the Anbiruke Nagayamon as a cultural asset. This happened on July 15, 2002. It’s an important piece of local history. Please view it quietly from the outside.
