From its humble beginnings to its vibrant present, Horie Junior High School has witnessed decades of growth and transformation. Horie Junior High, affectionately known as “Hori-chu,” stands as a testament to the community’s dedication to education. Located in Fushami, Urayasu City, Horie Junior High first opened its doors on April 1, 1977. Initially, the school shared a portion of the existing Urayasu Junior High School building. Its journey began with 341 students across three grades: 120 in the first year, 123 in the second, and 98 in the third. The school was officially established after separating from Urayasu Junior High. Originally, the school was intended to be named after the Horie district, but as the Fushami area was not yet established, it adopted the name Horie Junior High School. It wasn’t until April 1, 1981, that the school was renamed Urayasu City Horie Junior High School. Over the years, Horie Junior High has seen a significant increase in its student population. As of April 1, 2022, the school had approximately 660 students. The school’s motto, “High aspirations, self-reliance,” reflects its educational philosophy. Horie Junior High aims to nurture students who actively participate in shaping their future. It emphasizes creativity, enthusiasm, and respect. The school encourages students to explore new ideas and express themselves through creative pursuits. It also fosters a warm and spirited environment. Students are taught the importance of good manners and thoughtful consideration. This holistic approach to education helps students develop into well-rounded individuals. The school’s vibrant extracurricular activities further enhance this development. Horie Junior High boasts a range of clubs, including sports, culture, and arts. Students can choose from activities like baseball, judo, kendo, soccer, windsurfing, and basketball. The school also offers cultural clubs like the brass band, art club, and science club. These extracurricular activities offer opportunities for students to pursue their passions and develop their talents. Whether it’s a sports competition, a cultural performance, or a scientific experiment, students at Horie Junior High are encouraged to actively engage and contribute to the school community.
