Cast in 1725 this bell’s resonant tones ring in the new year. It’s a truly unique Japanese experience. Horinouchi Myoho-ji Temple also houses a holy image. This is known as the Founder in Horinouchi. It’s revered for its ability to ward off misfortune. The temple’s grounds are filled with people during Hokke Senbu-e and Eshiki ceremonies. These are held in July and October respectively. Thousands of Buddhist scriptures are recited during these events. They honour the death of the Venerable Nichiren.
