“Need a space for a family funeral?” That might be the question that brought you to Horinouchi Funeral Hall. It is a place for farewells in Tokyo.

Horinouchi Funeral Hall is a privately run facility. It offers both cremation and funeral services. It is in Suginami Ward Tokyo.

Tokyo Hakuzen Co. manages six funeral halls in Tokyo. Horinouchi Funeral Hall is the smallest.

Once upon a time the south side had a unique feature. A cremator in a renga color pattern stood there. It also featured a car porch with a ramp to special rooms on the second floor.

In March 1992 the facility underwent a complete renovation. The cremator and ceremonial hall were integrated into one building. It operated year-round except for year-end and New Year holidays.

The hall’s interior deteriorated significantly over time. So renovations were done in 2008. The entire building was temporarily closed for three months. The cremator was repaired. An entrance was added for direct access from the parking lot to the second-floor waiting room.

Among the six Tokyo Hakuzen locations Horinouchi is unique. It is the only hall without a special waiting room.

Let’s step inside Horinouchi Funeral Hall. It has eight cremators in the Rostrum style. Five are top-grade and three are in special rooms. There are also eight waiting rooms.

The hall offers three traditional-style ceremonial rooms. These rooms have a coffin stand on the first floor. Additionally there are four new-style ceremonial rooms. These were added in August 2023 for small family funerals. The new rooms include a waiting room and three control rooms on the second floor. They serve as ceremonial and dining spaces. This setup reduces waiting times for ceremonies.

Generally wakes are held from 6 pm to 7 pm. Funeral services are held at different times. This avoids conflicts with other rooms or external services. This also applies to families opting for direct cremation.

When using the ceremonial hall at Horinouchi Funeral Hall there are choices. The coffin can be moved from the ceremonial hall to the cremator on a hearse. Or hall staff can use a trolley to move the coffin.

So as we conclude our visit to Horinouchi Funeral Hall remember this. It provides a space for respectful farewells. It serves the community with comprehensive facilities and services.
