Could a church resemble Noah’s Ark? Here at the 基督教深圳堂 (Shenzhen Christian Church), also known as 基督教深, that’s exactly the image that comes to mind. This impressive structure, with its majestic lines and clean design, stands as a modern-day ark amidst the bustling city of Shenzhen. The church’s history, much like the biblical ark, speaks of survival and renewal. Originally founded in 1898 in Luohu District, the church faced numerous challenges, including relocation and even closure during the Cultural Revolution. The original church, situated on Peace Road, was eventually demolished due to urban development. But like a resilient seed, the church found new ground. In 1998, the Futian District Government granted land in Meilin, Huaguoshan for a new building. Construction began in 1999, and this magnificent structure, reminiscent of Noah’s Ark, was finally completed in 2001. The Shenzhen Christian Church isn’t just a beautiful building. It’s a vibrant community with a rich history of faith and perseverance. Today, the church hosts four Sunday services, drawing nearly 6,000 attendees. It offers a variety of programs and activities, including Sunday school, Bible study, choir practice, and even an English-language fellowship. The church’s towering cross, reaching 70 meters high, serves as a beacon of hope and a testament to the enduring power of faith in this dynamic city. It stands as a symbol of the church’s journey, a journey of resilience, growth, and unwavering dedication to serving the community and sharing the good news.
