Why is Enjuin Temple so important? Enjuin Temple, formally known as Inryozan Konshamonji Enjuin. It is a historic temple with roots stretching back centuries.

Enjuin’s story began in 1221. The temple owes its existence to the efforts of Minister Fujiwara.

Time jumped ahead. Kida Minamoto Yorishige rebuilt Enjuin in 1615. Rev. Kenchizu and Kosho later developed it. This ensured its continuation to the present day.

The main hall that we see today was rebuilt in 1957. The Taishimon Hall was rebuilt in 1966. The abbot’s chamber was renovated in 1967. The guest hall saw its renewal in 1975.

Interestingly, a nearby Hieda Shrine once served as Enjuin’s guardian. The many ginkgo and zelkova trees at Hieda Shrine add to Enjuin’s scenic backdrop.

To the main hall’s left stand the Muenzuka and Mizuko Jizo. These attract worshippers. Enjuin is close to the Tama River. It blends into a quiet residential area. Enjuin is surrounded by beautiful white walls. It offers a serene and peaceful presence.

The temple grounds showcase seasonal flowers. These include narcissus, azaleas, cherry blossoms and peonies. They enhance the temple’s beauty.

Enjuin offers more than just historical and spiritual significance. It provides burial plots. These plots vary in size and price. A small plot of 0.82 square meters costs 714000 yen. The annual maintenance fee is 10000 yen. Larger plots are also available. The prices vary.

Getting here is easy. It is a 15-minute walk from Kida. Alternatively, a 4-minute car ride from Haruhi Station. Buses also run from Haruhi Station.

Enjuin invites visitors to explore its grounds. You can uncover its history. You can also enjoy its peaceful atmosphere.
