Zenkō-ji holds stories of compassion and resilience. During the Edo period, the Arai-shuku Gimin Rokuninshu plotted to appeal harsh taxes directly to the shogunate. They were betrayed and decapitated. Their actions were deemed criminal. The 20th chief priest of Zenkeiji Temple secretly buried their remains and built a grave.
This act was an oral tradition for years. It became a recognized historical fact in 1947. The remains of the Six People were unearthed during road expansion.
The main hall underwent earthquake resistance renovations. These took place from October 2023 to January 2024.
