Tucked between bustling streets and towering skyscrapers, 和泉福音教会 stands as a beacon of faith. This unassuming church, nestled in Tokyo’s Suginami ward, holds a story richer than its simple facade suggests. 和泉福音教会, meaning Izumi Gospel Church, was established quite recently, in March 2009. It was born from a vision, a desire to plant a Christ-centered evangelical church in the heart of Tokyo, a city where Christians represent a small percentage of the population. The church celebrated its 10th anniversary in May 2019, a testament to its growing congregation and unwavering faith. 和泉福音教会 is more than just a building. It’s a vibrant community striving to live by the word of the Bible, focusing on the covenant of grace fulfilled in Jesus Christ. They aim to nurture growth in every member, fostering a family-like atmosphere that transcends cultural and national boundaries. And central to their mission is the passionate sharing of the Gospel in Tokyo, Japan, and throughout the world. The church is led by a dedicated team of pastors. Reverend Ken Ogawa, trained in Canada and the USA, and his wife Mariko, a former missionary in Africa, bring their wealth of experience and unwavering commitment to 和泉福音教会. Reverend Dr. Joshua K. Ogawa, with a background in physics and theology, and his wife Eunice, also former missionaries, provide spiritual guidance and leadership. Dr. Ogawa’s extensive writings on missions and theology reflect his profound understanding of faith and its impact on the world. This small church in Tokyo represents a powerful movement of faith, hope, and love, reaching out to a vast city with a message of grace.
