Opened in 2008, Hua·Art Museum, nestled within Shenzhen’s Overseas Chinese Town, is a sight to behold. This isn’t just any museum. Hua·Art Museum proudly holds the title of China’s first art museum dedicated to design. The building itself is a work of art, transformed from an old warehouse. Its honeycomb-like exterior, with hexagonal steel structures and glass curtain walls, creates a striking contrast against the surrounding buildings. This design cleverly preserves the history of the original structure while showcasing a modern aesthetic. Inside Hua·Art Museum, the design elements continue. The hexagonal motif is repeated and expanded upon, creating a complex yet functional space. Folded planes intersect and intertwine, forming a dynamic and engaging public area. The museum’s focus is on promoting the exchange, development, and research of design. It embraces experimental design and interdisciplinary innovation. Through exhibitions, education, collections, and research, Hua·Art Museum connects the public with design, art, and culture. The museum boasts over 2,000 square meters of exhibition space within its 3,000-square-meter building. A climate-controlled art repository ensures the preservation of valuable artworks. A dedicated art salon provides a platform for artists, art enthusiasts, critics, and collectors to interact and exchange ideas. Hua·Art Museum’s creation has formed an “art triangle” with the He Xiangning Art Museum and the OCT Contemporary Art Terminal. This collaborative network allows these venues to complement and support each other, enriching the cultural and artistic resources of the area.
