Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School is located in Ichikawa City. More precisely it is in Yawata 2-chome. This public high school was founded in 1964. It stands as a beacon of learning in Chiba Prefecture.

The school’s motto is “Autonomy and Independence”. This reflects its commitment to fostering self-reliant and responsible individuals. The school encourages students to pursue their dreams. The school helps them become independent members of society.

Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School is known for its vibrant school events and club activities. These traditions have been upheld since the school’s founding. Students actively participate in school life. Teachers support them in their endeavors.

Among the notable events is the Chorus Festival. For about 40 years students gather at the Ichikawa City Citizen Hall for this festival. There is also the Marathon Competition. Boys run 6.5 km and girls run 4.6 km.

Club activities are also a significant part of student life. More than 80 percent of students participate in clubs. Academically Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School prepares students for university. The curriculum focuses on core subjects such as Japanese language mathematics and English. In the first year all students study common subjects except for art. In the second year students continue with common subjects.

In the third year students choose one of three courses. These are humanities, science or humanities-science. The humanities course focuses on Japanese language society and English. The science course emphasizes mathematics science and English. The humanities-science course offers flexible options for students including nursing and medical fields.

Chiba Prefectural Kokubun High School has been a UNESCO school since 2012. It promotes international understanding and cooperation. The school aims to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals SDGs. These goals are in line with UNESCO’s ideals.

Before 2019 the school conducted overseas study tours. Taiwan was the destination for several years. The school also accepted high school students from the United States. Though these activities were suspended due to the pandemic the school plans to revive the Taiwan study tour in 2025.

In the second semester the school invites exchange students from Taiwan. They conduct Taiwan guidance sessions in each class. Students deepen their knowledge of Taiwan. During summer vacation the school welcomes the Yueyang City Youth Delegation from China. The school’s tea ceremony club wind ensemble flower arrangement club and calligraphy club perform for them.
