How did a small village shape a part of modern Tokyo? We are standing at the \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751\u5f79\u5834\u8de1. This site marks the location of the former village office. It tells a tale of transformation and integration.

\u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 existed as an administrative unit. It started in the early Edo period. The village split from a larger 板橋村 Itabashi village. \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 then became its own entity.

The Meiji Restoration brought significant changes. In 1871, \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 was incorporated into Tokyo Prefecture. This was after a period under Urawa Prefecture. The village evolved. It became part of 北豊島郡 Kitatoshima-gun in 1878.

The landscape of \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 included key areas. These areas are known today as 大谷口 Otani-guchi, 上板橋 Kami-itabashi, 小茂根 Komone, 桜川 Sakuragawa, 東新町 Higashi-shimmachi and 常盤台 Tokiwadai. Also included were 徳丸 Tokumaru, 東山町 Higashiyama-cho, 南常盤台 Minami-tokiwadai and 向原 Mukaihara. The village also covered 弥生町 Yayoi-cho and parts of 中板橋 Naka-itabashi. Finally it extended to 小竹町 Kotake-cho and 旭丘 Asahigaoka in Nerima Ward.

In 1889, the establishment of municipal systems occurred. \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 became an independent village. This excluded its detached areas. These areas were ceded to 板橋町 Itabashi-cho.

By 1930, \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 had a population of 8454.

A major turning point arrived in 1932. \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 was integrated into Tokyo City. It merged with 板橋町 Itabashi-cho, 志村 Shimura and 赤塚村 Akatsuka village. Also with 練馬町 Nerima-cho, 上練馬村 Kami-nerima village, 中新井村 Naka-arai village, 石神井村 Ishigami-i village and 大泉村 Oizumi village. This amalgamation formed 板橋区 Itabashi Ward.

The former village area was reorganized. It became 上板橋一丁目 to 上板橋七丁目 Kami-itabashi 1-chome to 7-chome. There were also new town names. These included 小山町 Koyama-cho and 萩原町 Hagihara-cho. As well as 根ノ上町 Ne-no-ue-cho, 大谷口町 Otaniguchi-cho, 向原町 Mukaihara-cho, 小竹町 Kotake-cho and 江古田町 Ekoda-cho.

Today the \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751\u5f79\u5834\u8de1 serves as a reminder. It recalls the village’s administrative role before its absorption into Tokyo. The legacy of \u4e0a\u677f\u6a4b\u6751 lives on in the area’s place names. It reflects its contribution to Tokyo’s urban tapestry.
