Established in 1959, the Mishuku KKR Hospital, also known as 三宿病院, stands as a testament to Japan’s commitment to public health. 三宿病院 originally served the National Public Service Mutual Aid Association members and their families. It also opened its doors to the local community. From its inception, 三宿病院 collaborated with the Ministry of Defense. This partnership initially involved dispatching medical officers from the nearby Self-Defense Forces Central Hospital. Later, the arrangement shifted. More doctors were employed directly by the Mutual Aid Association. They worked alongside the Ministry of Defense physicians. This collaboration shaped the hospital’s unique structure, which continues to this day. Initially, 三宿病院 housed 11 departments and 147 beds. Through expansions in 1966, 1980, and 2001, it grew significantly. In 2005, a section for convalescent rehabilitation was added, providing 38 beds. This section was later redesignated as a Community-Based Comprehensive Care Ward, retaining its 38-bed capacity. Today, 三宿病院 boasts 21 departments and 244 authorized beds. While considered a medium-sized hospital, its medical staff is substantial. Sixty-three permanent doctors and 121 part-time physicians provide a wide range of medical services. 三宿病院 strives to provide patient-centered care. It balances specialized treatment with coordinated services across its various departments. 三宿病院 aims to be a hospital where comprehensive care and patient well-being are paramount.
