Mara’s attacks took the form of various misfortunes. These included disease and bandits. Mara’s ultimate goal was to break the monk’s spirit. The monk persevered though. His faith in the Sixth Heaven remained unwavering. Mara eventually retreated. The Sixth Heaven was thus shown to be a force of immense power and benevolence. The shrine was built to honor this power. It is a place where people can find protection. They also come to seek guidance and strength. It is a place of serenity and reflection. It’s a peaceful respite in the bustling city.
