The prophecy foretold the founding of a great city in the 2400th year of the Buddha’s religion. That year was 1857. King Mindon made it so. He moved his capital from Amarapura to the location of Mandalay. He built the Lawkananda Pagoda along with other grand structures. These represented the last flourish of a long line of dynasties.
