“Did the scholars at the Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi always work here?” a curious voice whispered. The wind whips around us here at Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi, carrying the whispers of history. This is where Mongolian science took its first modern breath. In 1921, a resolution established the “Institute of Literature and Scripts.” This marked the humble beginnings of Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi. The Institute later evolved into the “Institute of Sciences” and then the “Institute of Sciences and Higher Education.” Finally, in 1961, it became the Mongolian Academy of Sciences (MAS). The Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi currently houses fourteen research institutes and two affiliated academies. The Mongolian Academy of Sciences stands as the central scientific think tank. Its purpose is to nurture science and advanced technology in Mongolia. The Academy operates as a civil self-governed non-commercial entity. Over the years, the Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi has been a cradle for countless research projects. These projects have delved into a wide range of fields. These fields include history, ethnology, philosophy, international studies, mathematics, digital technology, botany, archaeology, geology, physics, paleontology, geography, geoecology, astronomy, chemical technology, biology, language, and literature. Even a Brain and Mind Research Institute finds its home within these walls. The Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi has a rich history of leadership. S. Jamyan led from 1921-1930. A. Amar led from 1930-1932. L. Dendev led from 1932-1940. B. Zharagalsaykhan led from 1940-1941. J. Dugersuren led from 1941-1946. Ts. Damdinsuren led from 1950-1953. N. Zhagbalsan led from 1953-1957. D. Tsebegmid led from 1960-1961. B. Shirendev led from 1961-1982. Ch. Tseren led from 1982-1987. N. Sodnom led from 1987-1990. D. Baatar led from 1991-1996. B. Avirmed led from 1996-2000. B. Enkhtuvshin led from 2008-2016. D. Regdel led from 2016-2024. S. Demberel is the current leader, since 2024. Today, the legacy of Shinzhlekh Ukhaany Akademi continues to thrive. Researchers push the boundaries of knowledge within its walls. The spirit of discovery, ignited in 1921, still burns bright.
