“Is this where the magic happens?” I once heard a student ask. Welcome to MUIS, specifically building number seven. MUIS stands for the National University of Mongolia. It is the oldest university in Mongolia.
MUIS хичээлийн 7-р байр is a part of this important institution. It is a place where knowledge meets innovation. The National University of Mongolia was established in 1942. It was initially named Choibalsan State University. This honored Prime Minister Khorloogiin Choibalsan.
After the Mongolian People’s Republic was formed, leaders saw the need for higher education. MUIS became Mongolia’s first university. The first students graduated in 1946. During the socialist period, the university trained party elites. Education was state-funded and strictly controlled. After democratization, MUIS evolved into a modern university. In 1995, it began offering bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs.
MUIS хичээлийн 7-р байр today contributes to the university’s mission. The mission is to create new knowledge. This knowledge spans environmental, social, and technological fields. MUIS contributes to Mongolia’s development.
Many of Mongolia’s universities trace their roots back to MUIS. These include the University of Science and Technology and the University of Life Sciences. MUIS played a role in the Mongolian Revolution of 1990. It served as a gathering place for groups advocating for democracy.
Today, MUIS has five main faculties. These are Business, International Relations, Law, Engineering, and Sciences. MUIS хичээлийн 7-р байр likely houses some of these faculties. MUIS also has branches in Uliastai and Erdenet. The university collaborates with international partners. This includes the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research in Dubna, USSR.
