The Parrocchia Beato Pier Giorgio Frassati is a beautiful building that sits almost unnoticed on the street. There isn’t much that distinguishes it from the many others, except perhaps the simple wooden cross above the entrance. Pier Giorgio Frassati was a young man who was born in 1901 and dedicated his short life to studying, helping the poor, and living his faith. He was a passionate mountaineer and a devout Catholic. His family was wealthy and prominent in the city, but he chose to live a simple life, always ready to lend a hand to those in need.
He’s a popular figure, especially amongst young Catholics, and there is a shrine in the Duomo of Torino, a massive cathedral with beautiful stained glass windows. Frassati was working for the people, and one day he got sick while visiting a poor person. It was a quick descent into a sickness that took his life, leaving him just a few exams away form his degree in mining engineering. He had vowed to help all those working in the mines and in the poor parts of the city. He died at just 24 years old. He was beatified in 1990, then canonized in 2025, becoming a saint.
His life story is an example of faith, action, and compassion, and the church is a living reminder of his legacy, offering a place of worship and reflection while also serving as a resource for the community. The stories that surround his life are a testament to the power of living a life of faith, and the church is a place of solace for many who seek to carry on his legacy. The Parrocchia Beato Pier Giorgio Frassati is a testament to a young man’s faith and action.
