Raging Spirits opened on July 21 2005. Walt Disney Imagineering created it. Sansei Technologies built it. The ride simulates a high-speed journey through ancient ruins. These ruins depict Incan buildings in Peru’s mountainous region.
Imagine yourself boarding a hopper car. The ride propels you around an archeological site. This design is similar to the Indiana Jones ride in Disneyland Paris. But Raging Spirits has a unique twist. It features a single vertical loop. It is the only ride in Tokyo Disney Resort with an inversion.
The Raging Spirits coaster is 600 meters long. It reaches speeds of 60 kilometers per hour. The ride lasts about 1 minute and 38 seconds. Each train has six cars. Each car holds 12 riders.
Look around. Notice the crumbling Mayan ruins. They hide tall hotels behind the attraction. Imagineers changed the temple design to fit the Lost River Delta’s theme.
The story involves a 5000-year-old Mayan ceremonial site. Archeologists moved two idols. They placed them face to face. Local myths warned against this. The Water Idol started spewing steam. The Fire Idol caught fire. The mine car track twisted into a 360-degree loop.
Notice the waterfall and pool of water beneath the loop. A steam machine creates thick fog. This fog fills a tunnel under the temple staircase. At night red lights create the illusion of fire.
Feel the mist as the train dives into a steam-filled sinkhole. These sinkholes are common in Mexico. This authentic detail enhances the ride’s theming.
In 2007 the ride closed for updates. Soft padding was added to the shoulder bars for comfort. Magnetic brakes were installed for smoother turns. These changes made Raging Spirits one of the smoothest coasters.
