“This church seems so modern for its history” a voice whispered.

You are standing before the Our Lady of Fatima RC Church. The Our Lady of Fatima RC Church is a testament to the enduring faith and determination of the Curepe community. Today, we delve into the captivating story of this cherished place of worship. The Our Lady of Fatima RC Church journey began in the 1950s with Father KL Devenish, a visionary Spiritan priest who recognized the need for a larger space to accommodate the burgeoning congregation. The original parish chapel had become too small.

Determined to secure land for a new church, Father Devenish employed an act of faith. He blessed three Miraculous Medals, placing them on the land he sought from a reluctant landowner. It was a parcel of land that held sentimental value, making the acquisition process even more challenging. Father Devenish promised the Virgin Mary regular Miraculous Medal devotions if the land became his.

To his delight, the land was acquired for $7,000 on May 17, 1954. True to his word, Father Devenish initiated the Miraculous Medal novena every Monday morning after Mass. This tradition continues to this day. The church’s foundation stone was laid on June 22, 1962, marking a pivotal moment in its history. The church’s design, free from obstructing columns, allows for an unobstructed view of the altar from every angle. The consecration ceremony took place on October 7, 1968. It was a grand event with Archbishop Anthony Pantin officiating, forever marking the Our Lady of Fatima RC Church as a sacred space.

The Our Lady of Fatima RC Church has served as a beacon of hope and solace for generations. Its history is interwoven with the lives of countless individuals who have found solace, inspiration, and a profound connection with their faith within its hallowed halls.
