Ever stopped to think about the brave children who played a part in Israel’s fight for freedom? Right here stands a monument to the Raanana Lehi Children. It commemorates their courage. These weren’t soldiers but young people who aided the Lehi. Lehi was also known as “Fighters for the Freedom of Israel.”
The Raanana Lehi Children monument honors youths who supported the underground. They risked much for their beliefs. Their stories are inspiring. They show dedication to the cause of freedom.
One such story is that of Ilana Rothschild. Ilana was born in Raanana in 1934. Her father, Yisrael Yardeni, was a Lehi member. The Yardeni home became a haven. It sheltered Lehi fugitives. Ilana and her family cared for them. They provided food and warnings of danger.
Imagine British patrols passing by. Ilana would hide weapons outside the house. She also carried messages. She cleaned firearms. Ilana was deeply involved despite her youth.
Another notable figure is Yehudit Cohen-Meguri. Yehudit was born in 1932. She joined Lehi. Her parents disapproved. They feared for her safety. Yet Yehudit remained steadfast. She even defied them.
Once, she walked barefoot to a meeting in the rain. Another time, youths broke her hand. She hid it from her parents. Yehudit said she fell off her bicycle. She volunteered at Kibbutz Ashdot Yaakov. However, she was attending a Lehi course in Raanana.
Tragically, Yehudit died on November 12 1947. She was mortally wounded. She refused to give up Lehi names. She endured torture. Yehudit remained faithful until her last breath.
These children came from different backgrounds. However, they united in their commitment. They supported Lehi’s activities. The Raanana Lehi Children monument is a testament. It shows their bravery. It reminds us of their sacrifices.
This monument stands as a symbol. It represents the spirit of the young. It embodies their willingness. They risked everything for freedom. The Raanana Lehi Children made a difference. They helped shape Israel’s destiny. Remember them. Honor their memory.
