What whispers secrets to the sea? The Harp, Sea and the Soft Wind Sculpture, of course. Here, at the edge of Tel Aviv, where the city meets the Mediterranean, stands this unique artwork. The Harp, Sea and the Soft Wind Sculpture isn’t just a static object. It’s a conversation between the city, the sea, and the sky. The sculpture was created by Ilan Averbuch in 1989. It’s a harmonious blend of stone and iron, designed to resonate with the surrounding environment. The artist, Ilan Averbuch, described the Harp, Sea and the Soft Wind Sculpture as being “on the border between Jaffa and Tel Aviv, overlooking the Hassan Bek Mosque and the massive modern hotels.” He envisioned it as a bridge between the old and the new, the natural and the man-made. Originally, the Harp, Sea and the Soft Wind Sculpture stood on a hill. However, park renovations relocated it. Averbuch lamented this change, believing it contributed to the sculpture’s weathered appearance. The sculpture is made with recycled materials. The stones and wood are reclaimed from New York City streets and old buildings, giving them a second life here in Tel Aviv. Stand here for a moment. Look through the sculpture towards the sea. Feel the wind passing through it, as if the sculpture itself is breathing. From one side, the Harp, Sea and the Soft Wind Sculpture frames the endless expanse of the Mediterranean.
