Perhaps, like me you are intrigued by stories of faith. Stories of community and shared purpose. That is the story of Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church.
Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church began in 1984. It formed when Our Redeemer Lutheran Church and Christ the King Lutheran Church joined together. Think about that. Two separate congregations becoming one.
The first joint service took place on January 15, 1984. It was held at Temple Terrace United Methodist Church. Neither congregation had enough space alone. 460 worshipers attended that service.
Our Redeemer was part of the Association of Evangelical Churches. Christ the King belonged to the Lutheran Church of America. The merging anticipated the formation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America in 1988. They became members upon its creation.
Groundbreaking for Christ Our Redeemer’s sanctuary occurred in October 1986. Construction finished in March 1987. A dedication service was held on April 5, 1987. The church celebrated its 10th anniversary in 1994.
In July, a dedication was held for a new fellowship hall. It included four classrooms plus a science and a computer lab. Christ Our Redeemer School has operated since 1962. It serves students from preschool through eighth grade.
Services at Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church are at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.. Sunday School starts at 9:15 a.m.
The church has about 700 members. Various programs exist such as Stephen ministry. This ministry supports members with special needs. There are home groups plus adult discipleship classes. Youth programs are also available.
Christ Our Redeemer Lutheran Church has men’s and women’s ministries. The Mod Squad is a youth drama group. They share the Gospel message in the community.
The church supports Metropolitan Ministries and Lutheran Ministries. They sponsor a Girl Scout troop. Also, they host an American Christian Karate program.
The church sponsors refugees, contra dances and migrant ministries. They host a Train Trade Fair and German Sunday services. Christ Our Redeemer celebrates Oktoberfest. This is a traditional German harvest celebration. A Christmas Eve candlelight service is presented annually. Vacation Bible School is offered each summer.
