In 1984 a vision took root. Several dedicated individuals dreamed of a Presbyterian Church in Bloomingdale. They approached the Southwest Florida Presbytery. Their goal was to serve the Brandon community. The Presbytery appointed a steering committee. This group guided the development of the Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale. Meetings were held in the homes of prospective members. On August 10 1986 46 people attended the first worship service. This took place in a local daycare center. By May 1987 a pastor was appointed. The congregation moved to larger facilities. The Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale was officially organized on April 29 1989. This coincided with the 200th anniversary of the Presbyterian denomination. The first service in their own building was on May 26 1992. This was a momentous occasion for the small but devoted congregation. The church is located at 710 E Bloomingdale Ave. It continues to grow and serve. The congregation’s commitment is evident in their various ministries. These include a choir a children’s program and a ladies fellowship. Members describe the church as a welcoming family-oriented place. They emphasize the church’s loving spirit and strong sense of community. The Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale remains a vital part of the Brandon area. Its small size belies its big heart for ministry and its deep dedication to serving God. The church has expanded its services beyond its walls. It houses Boy Scout Troop 61 and the Seeds of Hope non-profit. Eight support groups and a fitness group also meet at the church. The Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale isn’t just a place of worship. It is a vibrant hub of community engagement and support. The church demonstrates a commitment to serving its community and the world. This is seen in their involvement with the Honduran Presbyterian Mission. They provide educational scholarships and send members on mission trips. A current project focuses on building an adult daycare center for individuals with memory loss. This initiative addresses a significant need within the community. The Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale truly embodies its mission. This mission is to serve God its congregation and the wider community with compassion and dedication. The Presbyterian Church of Bloomingdale stands as a testament to faith community and service. It continues to be a blessing to the Brandon community. It remains a beacon of hope for those in need.
