Standing before you is the Zhensheng Temple. It’s also known as the Dazhi Dianxian Gong. Don’t let its unassuming exterior fool you. The Zhensheng Temple holds a captivating past. The history of Zhensheng Temple stretches back to the early years of the Taisho era. During Japanese rule, this very spot was known as the Sanchome district of Taihei. It was a gathering place for intellectuals. They would engage in lively discussions about Confucianism, recite poetry, and practice calligraphy. Later, it became a hub for religious teachings when the Beiping branch of the Xiantian Dao set up a base here. The year 1925 marked a turning point when Xu Qingshui brought the sacred statue of Xuanwu from the Jieyuan Temple to this location. This event led to the establishment of the temple, initially named “Jingxiu Temple.” In 1943, under the approval of the local government, the temple was formally renamed “Zhensheng Temple.” It’s fascinating how the Zhensheng Temple has undergone transformations throughout the years, reflecting the changing times while staying true to its spiritual core.
