Amidst the vibrant tapestry of São Paulo, the Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho e Nossa Senhora Aparecida stands as a testament to faith and community. The Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho e Nossa Senhora Aparecida isn’t just a building. It’s a living story, etched in the heart of the Mooca district. Let’s step back in time to 1941. Archbishop Dom José Gaspar de Affonseca e Silva envisioned a new parish. He chose the Alto da Mooca for this special place, naming it Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho. The name itself carries a rich history. It originated in 13th-century Scutari, Albania, where people prayed to Our Lady for protection against invaders. The journey of Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho e Nossa Senhora Aparecida began in a familiar setting. The Colégio Santa Catarina, operating since 1926, hosted the initial meetings. Father Vittorio Nardon, an Estigmatine priest who arrived in Brazil in 1936, was chosen as the first pastor. The parish found its first home in a former carpentry shop at Rua Bixira, number 233. The inauguration on March 16, 1941, was a momentous occasion. A procession from the Colégio Santa Catarina carried a borrowed image of Our Lady of Good Counsel to the new parish location. The community quickly blossomed. Father Nardon wasted no time forming religious associations. On April 26, they declared the Day of the Patroness, Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho, with special masses held every 26th of the month. The Pia União das Filhas de Maria, a young women’s group, became the first association. The Congregação Mariana followed soon after, uniting single and married men. By May, the Apostolado da Oração and the Círculo Operário da Mooca were established. The Liga Católica Jesus, Maria e José in 1942 and the Associação de Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Fátima in 1942 further enriched the parish’s tapestry. The dream of a dedicated church building took shape in 1945. The parish acquired land at the corner of Rua da Mooca and Rua Fernando Falcão. A cornerstone ceremony in 1945 marked the beginning of the new chapter. Fundraising efforts through festivals and music events sustained the construction. By 1948, the lower level was complete, with the address established as Rua da Mooca, 3911. All subsequent fundraising focused on completing the upper level. Father Nardon’s dedicated leadership lasted until 1955 when Father Luís Eccli took the helm. The Paróquia Nossa Senhora do Bom Conselho e Nossa Senhora Aparecida stands as a symbol of resilience, faith, and the power of community.
