Deep within the Blue Mountains, Scenic World beckons. It’s a place where nature’s grandeur meets human ingenuity. Scenic World offers an experience unlike any other, just 100 kilometers west of Sydney. Scenic World is a family-owned treasure. It started its journey in 1945, thanks to the vision of Harry Hammon. He transformed a former mining operation into a world-renowned tourist destination. Scenic World houses a quartet of attractions. The Scenic Railway, Scenic Skyway, Scenic Cableway, and Scenic Walkway each offer a unique perspective on the breathtaking landscape. The Scenic Railway claims the title of the world’s steepest passenger railway. It plunges down a 52-degree incline. The railway descends 310 meters through a cliff-side tunnel, emerging into the ancient rainforest below. It was originally built in the 1880s to transport coal and shale. It wasn’t until 1945 that it became solely a tourist attraction. The Scenic Skyway, built in 1958, glides 270 meters above the Jamison Valley floor. The modern cabin features sections of liquid crystal glass. This glass floor turns transparent during the ride, revealing the stunning views below. A second station on the opposite cliff face allows access to bushwalking trails to Echo Point. The Scenic Cableway offers a gentle descent into the Jamison Valley. It travels 510 meters, offering panoramic views of iconic landmarks like the Three Sisters, Orphan Rock, and Katoomba Falls. The Scenic Walkway invites exploration of a 2.4-kilometer elevated boardwalk. This boardwalk meanders through ancient rainforest, showcasing the region’s unique flora and remnants of its mining history. A lesser-known tale of Scenic World involves the Orphan Rocker roller coaster. This coaster, named after the nearby Orphan Rock, was built in 1984 but never opened to the public. It remains a silent testament to a dream deferred. Scenic World stands as a testament to innovation and the enduring allure of the Blue Mountains. It’s a place where the thrill of adventure intertwines with the tranquility of nature. Scenic World offers an unforgettable escape for all who venture within its embrace.
