Locals proudly call themselves Infradomimontains. Niederhausbergen is a charming commune nestled in the Bas-Rhin department. It sits in the Grand Est region of France. This is a residential area on Strasbourg’s outskirts. Niederhausbergen is about 6 km northwest of Strasbourg. It is near the Hausbergen hill. This hill marks the start of the Vosges du Nord region.

Niederhausbergen’s history dates back centuries. The village was first mentioned in 925. Bishop Richwin of Strasbourg made a donation. It went to the Saint Thomas Foundation.

The village expanded over time. New neighborhoods appeared between the World Wars. Houses were built along the CD 184. Employees of the Hausbergen train station lived here. More residential areas followed like Schleifling and Saint Thomas.

The Fort Foch overlooks Niederhausbergen. German troops built it between 1872 and 1880. The fort served as a prisoner camp during World War II. Yugoslav prisoners painted a mural. It has been classified as a historical monument. After the war, the fort stored munitions. In 1953, an accidental explosion killed six people. A plaque and a monument commemorate this tragedy. They stand in the municipal cemetery since 1999.
