Is it a whisper or a tale? Here at the Undret Sculpture, stories seem to swirl like the wind through the trees. The Undret Sculpture, also known as “Skvallertanterna” (The Gossiping Women), is more than just granite. It’s a tribute to the strength and resilience of women. It’s a memory etched in stone, right here in Vita Bergen park, near Sofia Church. Astrid Rietz, the sculptor, brought Undret to life in 1976. She captured the struggles of women like Elsa Borg and her “Bible Women”. These women faced poverty head-on in this very neighborhood. Rietz herself lived nearby, in the Sofia parish, towards the end of her life. So she knew the spirit of this place. She understood the stories whispering on the wind. The Undret Sculpture isn’t just a monument. It’s a mirror reflecting the lives of those who called Vita Bergen home. It’s a testament to their spirit, forever captured in the heart of Stockholm.
