In 1934, Sif Ruud joined the Royal Dramatic Theatre’s acting school. There she studied alongside Gunn Wållgren. Hilda Borgström was one of her teachers. Sif Ruud graduated and began working in various theaters across Sweden.
Sif Ruud’s movie career was mainly in smaller roles. She is best known as Aunt Olga in Ingmar Bergman’s “Wild Strawberries” from 1957. Sif Ruud was also praised for her role as Madam Flod in “Hemsöborna”.
Sif Ruud married Sune Bergström in 1944. They had a child together. They later divorced. She remarried Per-Olof Fallde in 1954. They had a daughter together.
Sif Ruud’s career blossomed. She became a celebrated actress and theater pedagogue. In 2000, she was appointed professor. Sif Ruud received the Litteris et Artibus award in 1986. She also won two Guldbagge Awards. One was for best actress in 1979. The other was for best supporting actress in 1995.

Sif Ruud regularly appeared in TV theater. She was in Bengt Lagerkvist’s TV film “Guest of Reality” in 1961. She gained fame as Madam Flod in Strindberg’s “Hemsöborna” in 1965. In 1969, she appeared in Alf Sjöberg’s production of Strindberg’s “Fadren”.
In the early 1980s, Sif Ruud returned to television theater. She starred in the TV movie “Oldsmobile”. It was filmed by the Gulf of Mexico. At Maximteatern, she played one of the Brewster sisters in “Arsenic and Old Lace”. It ran for four seasons.
Sif Ruud died on August 15, 2011, in Stockholm. She was 95 years old. Sif Ruud is buried here at Norra begravningsplatsen.
