Have you ever imagined living in a piece of history? That is the allure of Westcott Tower.

Westcott Tower stands as a unique reminder of Antigua’s past. It offers a glimpse into the island’s sugar production era. Today, the tower presents a blend of historical architecture and modern potential.

Originally constructed in 1734, this sugar mill was significantly modified in the late 1960s. A platform was added to the top. This addition provided 360-degree views of the surrounding landscape and the nearby ocean.

For a long time, the Westcott Tower was part of the Crosbies estate. The estate dates back to 1777. In its early days, the Crosbies estate grew sugar. Later, it transitioned to cotton farming. Lee H. Westcott purchased the Crosbie’s estate in the mid-1930s. He converted the overgrown sugar plantation into an arable cotton farm.

Westcott was the first farmer to introduce machinery into agriculture on the island. Despite his efforts, the cotton venture eventually faced financial difficulties. In 1958, Crosbie’s Development Ltd. was formed. The company began selling seaside lots for 30 to 60 cents per square foot.

The tower itself has seen many uses. At one point, it functioned as an office space. The ground floor, about 14 feet in diameter, served as a storeroom. An external staircase leads to the upper level.

The upper floor was originally designed as an apartment. It includes a living room, kitchen, bedroom, and bathroom. A walk-around veranda surrounds this level. Imagine waking up here every morning.

Currently, Westcott Tower is for sale. In December 2021, the asking price was US$1,000,000. The property includes just over 1/3 acre of land. There is potential for expansion with the necessary approvals.

The location of Westcott Tower is ideal. It is situated in Crosbies. This is a popular residential area north of St. John’s. It’s a short drive from Friars Hill Road with supermarkets, a cinema, bars and restaurants. The international airport is about 15 minutes away. The beaches of Dickenson Bay are about ten minutes away.

The converted 18th-century Westcott Tower represents a unique opportunity. It can be purchased with an adjacent block of five apartments. These apartments are located in a single-story block. There is potential to add an additional apartment within the existing structure.

As you stand here, consider the layers of history within Westcott Tower. From its origins as a sugar mill to its potential as a modern residence, the tower invites you to become part of its ongoing story. It is more than just a structure. It is a landmark. Westcott Tower offers a unique blend of history, potential, and stunning views in Antigua.
