“Flint!” I overheard a pre-Columbian native shout. Long Island isn’t just a modern paradise. It is an ancient treasure.

Welcome to Long Island, also known as Jumby Bay. This exclusive island sits off Antigua’s northeast coast. Imagine pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters. Long Island offers tranquility and natural beauty.

Long Island stretches across 300 acres. That’s about the size of Monaco or New York City’s Central Park. Christopher Columbus discovered Long Island in 1493.

But long before Columbus, pre-Columbian people valued Long Island. They used the island’s high-quality marine chert or flint. This flint was vital for tools. It has been found as far as the Virgin Islands and Martinique. Archaeologists found backed knives and spoke-shave type tools here. Long Island flint usually has a white surface. Inside, it ranges from light brown to gray-black.

Today, Long Island is home to the luxurious Jumby Bay Island resort. It is managed by the Oetker Collection. The resort is accessible only by boat. A catamaran whisks you from Winthrop’s Bay in just ten minutes.

Notably, the island promotes sustainability. Jumby Bay is the largest recycler of bottles and cans on Antigua. They also recycle golf cart batteries. The resort preserves the local environment. One initiative is the Hawksbill Turtle Project. Hawksbill sea turtles nest on the island’s beaches. The project has been running for over 25 years.

The island has sun-powered water heating. There is also a waterfowl sanctuary and a farm. No cars are allowed. Residents share pastures with black-headed Persian sheep.

Many notable people have lived on Long Island. These include David Sainsbury and Ken Follett.

Jumby Bay offers a “Nothing But The Swim Suit” all-inclusive experience. Villas and estate homes feature private pools. The resort also has boutique Ocean Suites.

You can paddleboard along the coastline. Explore hidden coves. Try motorized watersports. These include tubing and waterskiing. Or relax with windsurfing and kayaking. Fishing charters are available. You might catch marlin, tuna, or kingfish. Play tennis on one of three courts. Cycle along palm-fringed paths. Join a sip and paint class. Enjoy wine and rum tastings.

Long Island blends luxury with laid-back island life. It also treasures its history. The island balances exclusivity with environmental awareness. Long Island offers an unforgettable Caribbean experience.
