Could a seminary be born from a vision? Here at the Chinese Mission Seminary (CMS) in Shenzhen, that’s exactly what happened. The Chinese Mission Seminary (CMS) stands as a testament to the vision of Rev. Jonathan Chao (1938-2004). He dedicated his life to serving the Chinese people and advancing theological education. His work began with the “Chinese Church Research Center”. It focused on the study of Chinese culture and churches. During a retreat, the Research Center staff experienced a shared vision. They felt called to establish a seminary in Hong Kong. This seminary would emphasize mission work. It would address the growing need for theological training within the Chinese community and further the Great Commission. After three years of preparation, Rev. Chao’s leadership brought the Chinese Mission Seminary (CMS) to life. The seminary’s core mission is to cultivate spiritually grounded Christian evangelists, pastors, and researchers. These individuals are trained to serve the mission work of the Chinese people. The Chinese Mission Seminary (CMS) isn’t just a building. It’s a beacon of hope and faith, nurtured by a shared vision and a dedication to service.
