Once, this land was a royal hunting forest. Now, welcome to Seoul Forest. This massive park offers a green escape in the heart of the city. Seoul Forest officially opened in June 2005. The city invested 235.2 billion won to create this urban oasis.

Seoul Forest is the third largest park in Seoul. It spans an impressive 1,200 hectares. That is almost 3,000 acres. Over 400,000 trees dot the landscape. Over 100 different animal species call this park home.

But Seoul Forest’s story goes back further than 2005. Before becoming a park, this area served different purposes. In 1908, it became Seoul’s first water purification plant. Later, a racecourse and golf facilities occupied the land. Today, Seoul Forest provides fresh air and green space for everyone.

Seoul Forest is divided into five unique parks. Each zone offers a distinct experience. The Cultural Art Park features flower beds and performance stages. The Ecological Forest provides a natural habitat for wildlife. You might spot Sika deer here. The Nature Experience Study Field includes a botanical garden. The Wetlands Ecological Field has an outdoor classroom. Finally, the Han River Waterside Park boasts great river views.

The Ecologic Park has over 40 species of roses. Imagine strolling along the river. Admire these colorful and fragrant flowers. You can also spot fish swimming in the water. Look closely for wetland plants like reeds. Silver banner grass and rose-gold pussy willows grow here.

Children will especially love the insect garden. It is part of the Nature Experience Study Field. The Wetlands Ecological Field also has an outdoor nature classroom. It provides learning opportunities for kids.

Getting here is easy. Take Seoul Subway Line 2 to Ttukseom Station. Use exit eight. Alternatively, take the Bundang Line to Seoul Forest Station. Take exit three. From there, walk straight and turn left. The park will be across the street.

Since 2017, Seongdong-gu has protected the area. They restricted large franchises from opening near Seoul Forest Road. This ensures local businesses can thrive. It preserves the unique character of the neighborhood.

Seoul Forest offers something for everyone. Whether you seek recreation or relaxation. You can ride bicycles or skateboards here. The park fulfills the desire for green space in the city. Remember its transformation from royal hunting grounds to the park we see today. Seoul Forest stands as a testament to Seoul’s commitment to nature. So take a deep breath and enjoy this invigorating space.
