Have you ever wondered what a statue of Jaroslav Hašek would look like? The Jaroslav Hašek Statue is a bronze equestrian statue in Prague. It sits in the Žižkov district, on Prokopovo náměstí, right in the heart of one of the bohemian artist districts. The sculptor was Karel Nepraš, and the statue was completed by his daughter, Karolina Neprasová, after his death in 2002. It was unveiled in 2005. It is said that when the statue was unveiled, beers were flowing, and the statue was even baptized with beer. Hašek is depicted riding a rather odd-shaped horse. This is all the more puzzling when you consider that Hašek had no particular fondness for horses. The horse appears to have a pub table for a back. This is likely a tribute to Hašek’s love of alcohol. The statue is worth a visit, not just for the unique artistic design, but also for the story it tells of its subject, a Czech humorist, satirist, writer, and anarchist, Jaroslav Hašek, best known for his novel The Good Soldier Švejk.
