Look up! What do you see? Does it remind you of something familiar? Yes, the Eiffel Tower in Paris. But this is Prague. And this is the Petrin Lookout Tower. While it is quite a bit smaller than its French counterpart, it still offers magnificent views of the city. Built in 1891, its purpose was to resemble the Eiffel Tower, which had just been unveiled at the World’s Fair the year before. The tower, reaching 63.5 metres, stood proudly as an observation tower for many years. It was even used as a radio and later a television transmission tower. Today, this majestic structure remains a major tourist attraction in Prague, attracting thousands of visitors yearly. Some may even call it a smaller, yet equally impressive, version of the Eiffel Tower. But it’s a Prague symbol. It’s a hidden gem right in the heart of the city that offers a different perspective. Climb the 299 steps, and you can see all of Prague stretching out before you – it’s breathtaking. Don’t forget to look for the Hunger Wall on the side of Petrin Hill. It is indeed a perfect place to spend an afternoon, whether you want to climb the tower or meander through the gardens!
