Taung Myint sits in the Pauk Township. It is part of the Pakokku District, within the Magway Region of Myanmar. This village is the heart of its own village tract.
Before 2021, Taung Myint was a peaceful place. The local middle school housed nine teachers. They taught 123 eager students.
However, the Myanmar civil war changed everything. The school closed its doors in 2021. October 2022 brought unspeakable horrors. Tatmadaw soldiers committed atrocities here. A schoolteacher from Thit Nyi Naung met a gruesome end. He was murdered and decapitated. His head was impaled on a gate. His body was left exposed. The soldiers burned the school to the ground.
The world condemned this act. Representatives from the United States spoke out.
