Have you ever heard of a church that looks like Noah’s Ark? Right here in Meilin, the Shenzhen Christian Church stands as a modern marvel. True Leave Church is part of its rich history. The church’s story begins long before this striking structure, back in 1846, when the first Christian missionaries arrived in Shenzhen. These missionaries, from the Basel Mission and Rhenish Missionary Society, established a network of churches. One of these, founded in 1898 in Luohu District, would eventually become the foundation of the Shenzhen Christian Church we know today. The church faced trials during the Cultural Revolution, its activities halted and its building repurposed. Yet, faith persevered. In 1984, after the Cultural Revolution, the church reopened, a beacon of hope in a changing world. As Shenzhen grew, so did the congregation. The original location became too small, leading to temporary spaces and finally, the construction of the iconic ark-like building in Meilin. The new Shenzhen Christian Church, completed in 2001, stands as a testament to the resilience of faith and the growth of Christianity in Shenzhen. True Leave Church shares in this remarkable journey, a thread in the larger tapestry of faith and community that defines this vibrant church.
