In the heart of Shenzhen’s western port area, a technological marvel unfolds: the Mawan Container Terminal. This isn’t just any port. Mawan is the Greater Bay Area’s first 5G-enabled container terminal, a testament to innovation and efficiency. Mawan Container Terminal began its transformation in 2015, partnering with CMA CGM to widen the Tonggu Channel. Four multipurpose wharves were converted into two massive berths. These berths can now accommodate the world’s largest container ships, showcasing Mawan’s global reach. Since its official opening, Mawan Container Terminal has seen an impressive 49.7% year-on-year increase in TEU throughput, reaching 1.86 million units in just seven months. Twenty-eight new routes have been established. The port boasts five berths ready to handle the titans of the sea. The automation at Mawan Container Terminal is breathtaking. Driverless trucks navigate the port, guided by the intelligent systems. Cranes gracefully hoist containers, placing them with precision in the designated locations. This automation has significantly reduced on-site personnel and improved safety. Mawan Container Terminal’s technology extends beyond automation. The Beidou GPS and artificial intelligence provide real-time analysis of personnel, vehicle, and container flows. This constant monitoring helps identify risks and enhances the port’s risk-handling capabilities. Mawan Container Terminal also participates in the GBA Combined Port program. Alongside Chiwan and Dachan Bay container terminals, Mawan has opened 18 new routes, handling a combined 170,000 TEUs. This collaboration makes them a preferred choice for major exporters. Mawan Container Terminal is a symbol of progress. It’s where tradition meets innovation, where human ingenuity meets technological advancement.
