Seven spectral figures. This is the haunting tale of Tsat Tsz Mui Pai. Tsat Tsz Mui Pai, or Seven Sister Rocks, once graced the shores of Tsat Tsz Mui in Hong Kong. These weren’t just rocks. They were believed to be the embodiment of seven sisters, forever bound by a tragic pact. The sisters, close playmates from a Hakka village, vowed to remain unmarried and die together. Their bond was unbreakable. However, fate intervened when one sister’s family arranged her marriage. Distraught, the sisters saw no other way to honor their vow. The night before the wedding, they walked into the sea at Tsat Tsz Mui, never to return. The next morning, seven rocks mysteriously appeared where they had entered the water. The villagers believed these rocks were the transformed sisters, forever marking their tragic end. The area became known as Tsat Tsz Mui, meaning “seven sisters,” and the rocks were named Tsat Tsz Mui Shek, or Seven Sister Rocks. Tsat Tsz Mui Pai is more than just a geological formation. It symbolizes the strength of sisterhood, the weight of tradition, and a poignant reminder of a tragic tale. Sadly, the physical rocks are no more, buried beneath land reclamation in 1934. Yet their story lives on, whispered in the winds that sweep across the now-developed area. The tale of Tsat Tsz Mui Pai serves as a haunting reminder of a lost landscape and the seven sisters who chose a watery grave over a life apart.
