From a mining town to a modern marvel. That’s the story of Dubí u Kladna. Right here, where remnants of Kladno’s industrial past meet the promise of a vibrant future, lies a district undergoing a transformation. Dubí u Kladna, once echoing with the clang of machinery and the hustle of miners, is now buzzing with the energy of revitalization.
Dubí u Kladna, German name Eichen, is a district of Kladno. It holds a significant place in the city’s history, deeply intertwined with Kladno’s industrial heritage. The first written record of Dubí dates back to 1367. This small village, nestled on the outskirts of Kladno, played a crucial role in the region’s coal mining boom. It bears the marks of its industrial past, a history etched into its very landscape.
A key part of Dubí’s history is linked to the coal mine, Důl František Josef, later renamed Prago I. Dug between 1867 and 1871, this 365-meter deep mine, along with Důl Traggy (later Prago II), excavated in 1900-1901, became a vital part of Kladno’s coal industry. This industrial activity shaped the community of Dubí, drawing workers and their families to the area. The population grew, reaching 2,768 in 1921 and 2,743 in 1930. The census data reveals a diverse community, predominantly Czechoslovakian, with a mix of Germans, Jews, and foreigners. A significant portion of the population identified as Roman Catholic, while a smaller number belonged to other denominations or held no religious affiliation.
But Dubí u Kladna’s story isn’t just about coal dust and mine shafts. Amidst the industrial landscape stands the Church of St. John the Baptist, a testament to the enduring spirit of faith within the community. A darker chapter of Dubí’s history is marked by a tragic event on December 12, 1944. An American bomber, forced to make an emergency drop of its bombs, tragically killed 35 workers sheltering in the nearby forest. A monument now stands as a solemn reminder of this loss.
Today, Dubí u Kladna is shedding its industrial skin. It stands as Kladno’s largest development area, a testament to the district’s potential for growth. This former industrial zone, recognized as one of the most prestigious brownfields, is attracting developers and investors eager to contribute to its revitalization. The existing train station and established infrastructure offer a strong foundation for future development. This revitalization promises not just new buildings, but a complete transformation, embracing modern architecture and essential amenities. Projects like ICON Park, with its plans for a modern kindergarten, cafe, shop, and park, exemplify this commitment to creating a thriving community. Dubí u Kladna is poised to become one of the most attractive places to live, a vibrant blend of history and modernity.
