Nestled on a mound in Sha Tin, Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School is more than just a school. It’s a living testament to a remarkable woman and a piece of Hong Kong’s history. Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School stands before you, embraced by lush greenery, a unique feature in this bustling city. The school’s origins are intertwined with the life of YC Liang, a businessman and anti-Japanese intelligence agent during World War II. He established the school in memory of his wife, Helen, who passed away in 1960. The primary school division was founded first in 1961, initially located in Sheung Wan. The secondary division followed in 1977, also in Sheung Wan, before both divisions found their permanent home here in Sha Tin in 1988. The Hong Kong government granted a generous plot of 11,000 square meters for the new campus, allowing Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School to flourish. Imagine this space in 1988, transforming from open land into the vibrant institution you see today. The school has continued to expand, adding facilities like the outdoor theatre and the distinctive curved flower path, a rarity in Hong Kong’s urban landscape. Within these walls, students pursue their education in 28 air-conditioned classrooms, equipped with science labs, computer rooms, a multi-media learning center, and a literature center. They gather in the hall for assemblies and performances, study quietly in the library, and enjoy meals in the indoor cafeteria. The indoor playground and basketball court provide spaces for recreation and activity. Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School also has a vibrant arts scene. Students have won gold awards in dance competitions and have even had their creative works showcased in exhibitions. The school encourages students to participate in activities promoting positive values and healthy lifestyles. From its humble beginnings as a memorial to a beloved wife, Helen Liang Memorial Secondary School has become a thriving center of learning and growth, shaping future generations within its verdant embrace.
