Can you feel the sea breeze whispering secrets of To Kok? This cape, jutting out into the waters between Hong Kong and mainland China, holds a unique history. To Kok isn’t just a geographical feature. It’s a landmark steeped in stories, a place where the past and present intertwine. To Kok is part of Sha Tau Kok, a town divided by the Hong Kong-China border. This border runs right through Chung Ying Street, splitting the town in two. Sha Tau Kok was once a bustling trade hub. Now, it’s quieter, with a more relaxed pace of life. The restricted entry scheme, expanded in January 2024, allows up to 1,000 visitors a day into the town. This aims to revitalize the area and bring in some much-needed business. Despite this, To Kok remains a unique and somewhat secluded destination. The surrounding area has been identified for tourism development, including recreational and eco-tourism. The Northern Metropolis development plan, a massive project encompassing a technology hub and housing, also includes this area. To Kok, with its natural beauty and intriguing location, offers a glimpse into a different side of Hong Kong, a border town caught between two worlds.
