Have you ever wondered about the quiet history of Prague’s Lysolaje? Standing before us is a place with roots stretching back to 1225. That’s when the first record of this village appeared. Lysolaje was not always part of the bustling city. It once belonged to the rulers of Bohemia. King Premysl Otakar I generously gifted this land to the Chapel of Saint Wenceslas at Prague Castle. Imagine the power plays and legal wrangling that must have ensued. Each new ruler had to confirm this donation! The oldest surviving document is from 1227. Lysolaje wasn’t just a farming village. From the 16th century onwards winemaking added to its economy. Can you picture those vineyards stretching across this landscape? Later the Supreme Burgrave of the Kingdom of Bohemia became the last private landowner. In 1968 Lysolaje became part of Prague. It officially became a municipal district on November 24 1990 gaining its independence. Lysolaje is more than just old documents and historical accounts. It boasts several historical buildings like the Fuchs Farm. First mentioned in 1654 the farm underwent transformations in the 18th and 19th centuries. Lysolaje is also home to a charming Chapel of the Virgin Mary the Protector of the Order of Preachers. Another point of interest is the Chapel of the Virgin Mary of Seven Sorrows. There are also the wayside shrines. Today Lysolaje is a quiet residential area. However it remains a link to Prague’s rich past. Its history is woven into the very fabric of this beautiful place. You can almost hear the echoes of centuries past.
