A charming haven awaits you. This is Zoopark Milíčov a small zoo on the edge of Milíčov Forest.
Zoopark Milíčov isn’t your typical large city zoo. It’s a peaceful retreat. Families with young children love it. It’s a place where you can easily spend an hour or more. You enter from Exnarova Street. The zoo offers refreshments and seating for adults. There’s plenty of fun for children too.
Zoopark Milíčov houses mostly farmyard animals. You’ll find chickens goats sheep rabbits and more. But there are also some surprises. Nutria coypu and mara are among the more unusual residents. Children can even feed the goats. Special animal feed is available for purchase. A playground provides extra entertainment.
Parking is readily available on the street. Want to extend your visit? Combine your trip with a walk through Milíčov Forest. There are excellent paths for bicycles and scooters. The forest has hills created from landfill. You could also visit the charming wooden playground K Milíčovu. It’s just across the road from the zoo.
Zoopark Milíčov’s history is intertwined with the Milíčov farm. This area once housed a larger farm. The name Milíčov itself is somewhat mysterious. It may derive from a medieval name. Another theory links it to Petr Milíčovský. He was a royal burgrave of Most Castle in the early 15th century. The castle was destroyed after the Thirty Years’ War. A new Neo-Gothic castle Hněvín replaced it. However there’s also mention of a burgrave named Petr z Milídevse.
The Milíčov village or settlement disappeared by the early 18th century. Records from 1727 show all inhabitants had left. The village was officially incorporated into the Průhonice estate. It wasn’t resettled. The land became part of the local manor. Maps from 1773 and later show the Milíčov farm and even a hunting lodge. The lodge later disappeared. The farm building was once called “zámeček” or little castle. It was demolished in the early 20th century. A new building took its place. After 1948 a state farm operated there. In 1951 it came under the Xaverov state farm. They raised horses and cattle until 1965. Since 1968 the farm has been part of the Háje district. The main city of Prague now owns the property.
Today Zoopark Milíčov continues the tradition of animals on this land. It is a unique blend of nature history and family fun. I hope you enjoyed your journey through the history of Zoopark Milíčov.
