Tucked away on the southeastern edge of Prague, Újezd u Průhonic whispers tales of a bygone era. Újezd u Průhonic isn’t just a name on a map. It’s a blend of old and new, a place where the echoes of history intertwine with the pulse of modern life. Újezd u Průhonic, once known as Oujezdec, emerged around 1483. Its companion settlement, Kateřinky, sprouted near the Milíčov Forest about 250 years later, first mentioned in 1727. The two settlements, Újezd and Kateřinky, initially stood about a kilometer apart. Újezd retained its village charm, while Kateřinky grew, embracing the influx of residents drawn by the construction of new housing in the 1990s and 2000s. This growth shifted the local council’s offices from Újezd to the burgeoning center of Kateřinky. This doesn’t mean Újezd u Průhonic faded away. It simply adapted, becoming a part of Prague in 1974. The area saw a significant shift when the D1 highway sliced through the landscape in 1971, near both Kateřinky and Újezd. This highway, a symbol of progress, severed Újezd’s connection to Šeberov and redrew the boundaries of modern Újezd u Průhonic. Later, a rest stop with a gas station and fast food restaurant emerged near the highway overpass on Formanská Street. Even the highway’s impact became part of the story of Újezd u Průhonic. The highway brought changes, but it also highlighted the need for better connections. The planned Vestecká Spojka, a new road project, aims to improve Újezd u Průhonic’s access to the D1 highway. This connection promises to further shape the future of Újezd u Průhonic. Today, the area thrives with amenities. Kateřinky boasts a police station and a kindergarten. Újezd u Průhonic offers a Vietnamese grocery store, a restaurant, an inn, and a newly built kindergarten and elementary school. Life in Újezd u Průhonic continues to evolve, blending the whispers of the past with the promise of the future.
