Hidden amongst the bustling city Lung Ngan Yin whispers tales of resilience. This isn’t just a name it’s a legacy. Lung Ngan Yin a place of worship and reflection for over 600 years. It began as Lung Kai Nunnery a once popular site that later fell into disrepair. Faithful locals however didn’t let it fade away. They rallied together fundraising and rebuilding. Their dedication transformed Lung Kai Nunnery into the Lung Shan Temple we see today. This humble resting place now welcomes those seeking solace and a connection to their ancestors.

Lung Shan Temple’s location follows Feng Shui principles. Nestled in a valley it’s embraced by hills and mountains. The eastern mountain represents the green dragon symbolizing power and yang energy. The western mountain symbolizes the white tiger representing health and yin energy. This harmonious blend of nature and spirituality creates a tranquil atmosphere.

The temple’s beauty is understated at first glance. Yet within its walls gold shines brilliantly. Statues lanterns and ceiling decorations all gleam with golden light. Dedicated to the Bodhisattvas Avalokitesvara Samantabhadra Manjushri and Ksitigarbha the temple offers a space for contemplation and spiritual growth. These Bodhisattvas help others reach enlightenment. The intricate details throughout the temple are truly awe-inspiring.

Water lilies are a recurring motif. You’ll find them depicted as lanterns or plaster embellishments. Dragons another common motif are wrapped around columns poised above rooftops or smiling from the clouds. The vibrant colors and imagery create a visually stunning experience.

The sounds of chanting and the scent of burning incense fill the air. Visitors leave paper offerings creating a colorful display. These offerings range from traditional gold ingots to modern items like houses and cars. They represent gifts for loved ones in the afterlife. The rhythmic chanting from funeral rites adds to the temple’s atmosphere. Buddhist funeral rites often involve multiple services marking significant days after a person’s death.

A towering statue of Guanyin the Bodhisattva of compassion overlooks the courtyard. The temple’s ponds are home to vibrant koi carp and tortoises. Stone likenesses of the twelve zodiac animals also sit at the foot of the valley. Lung Shan Temple is more than just a temple it’s a living testament to faith resilience and the enduring power of community.
